Somewhere in France
Dear Mr. Bland:
Your letter of October 6th, which I received a few days ago, was very much appreciated.  It had been some time since I received any mail and my moral was very low.
When I last wrote you, I was in combat, but shortly afterwards due to my old ailment, which gave me trouble while in basic training got so bad I couldn't take it any longer.  Therefore on October 1st, I was evacuated back to the 46th General Hospital where I was a patient for thirty-six days.  There I was reclassified to limited service.
At this writing, I am in a replacement camp which is the second one for me since leaving the hospital.  Where to from here, that I do not know.  You know that army, you never knew just what the score is.  However, some of the boys who came here with me have already been assigned, and as I understand several of them were assigned to M. P. duty somewhere near Paris. I sincerely hope they got a good deal as most of them have plenty of combat and deserve a break.  As for myself, I have only had approximately sixty-five days
In regards to the T.D. I have only received two copies since I have been overseas.  However I know it isn't your fault.  Had just started getting the paper before leaving my outfit and now my opinion the mall clerk just destroys them instead of sending them on to me.  Altho, as you mentioned, Modene has been sending me the most important clippings.
Was glad to know you had a big birthday dinner in Little Rock.  I know you and those big shots had a good time and I don't blame you for life is too short not to enjoy yourself occasionally.
As to myself I am still looking forward to the end of this war, when we can all return to our loved ones and live the balance of our lives in a country where we have freedom and democracy for which we are fighting.
When I return I will be interested in politics especially in electing our leaders who might play a big part in making our country a better place in which to live.  I am well pleased with the outcome of the last election.  However, don't get me wrong as I have no intention of ever seeking another office.  Altho, I shall always feel grateful to the people of Lawrence county and Walnut Ridge for what they have done for me in the past.
In closing, I wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  I remain as ever your friend,
       Bunk Allison.
